It's been over 30 years since I stood on a skeet range. When I did I shot an SKB Ithaca 12 ga sxs with 26" barrels IC/M. It was my quail gun. I was a better shot on quail than those clay birds.

Recently I had occasion to discuss skeet shooting with a young man who shoots skeet. He uses a 12ga Citori with 30" barrels. He does very well. He explained that the heavier shotguns and longer barrels are preferred for smoother tracking on the target.

Personally, I never found shooting clay targets to be anything more than playing golf. I play golf once every five or six years just to keep the rust off-season and I've played a lot more golf than I have shot skeet.

But there are those who have a lot of fun doing both.

Now, shooting golf may hold some interest!

Skeet looks hard, but it's not. Trap looks easy, but it's not. Clays looks hard, and it is.

FITASC, Bunker, Int'l Skeet, ZZ birds (Helice) and box pigeons are all harder than US trap or skeet.

Well i surprised myself. Knocked 9 down out of 25. Did a no no on the last station. Shot the 1st clay after the 1/2 way point. Got it though.

Decent score for a newb. I'm guessing you missed at stations 3,4,5 and 8.

I hit at each station. 8 was the one i chased after the 1/2 way point. I was told not to do that.

    Good for you!
Went out with a buddy of mine Saturday. While he has shot a LOT of trap over the years, this was only his second round of skeet. Took him a round to get the hang of the targets, but he was starting to get the doubles and even hitting station 8.

So keep at it, and soon you'll be buying a clay-games shotgun of your own!

Beyond IC is cyl or no choke past that is no change. Skeet choke is in between the two. If you pattern your shotgun also look at density and distribution of the shot. Is there enough room for a clay pigeon to hide? The theory of using 7-1/2 shot over 9 is pellet energy. A single 9 may not bust a bird but a 7-1/2 is more likely to.

You can really get to know your shotgun after a few pattern sessions.
