I've decided and ordered my first duty weapon. It's a Ruger .45 1911. Very excited. Any tips, etc. please don't hesitate to let me know.

its been a while since I carried a 1911......so my advice is:

get some good quality mags........I preferred Wilson magazines.

Shoot the snot out of it and let muscle memory develop for the 1911 system.

get a good quality level 3 security holster and practice with it.

get a backup gun....have it accessible for the weak hand.

So, as I understand this, someone else is going to buy a gun with your money in their name with their FOID card that is not related to you, then in a couple years, this same person who is not related to you has already said it will be your gun.

That Lad, is a straw purchase.

It keeps getting better. Only way out of this one is nepotism.

Wait for it......

You love busting my balls don't you? Lol. If you don't like me, get away from me? I don't need your input. I was under the impression that this forum was for constructive help?

Son, not all constructive help is positive. I posted that because it is something that could have gotten you into trouble. Contrary to what seems to be your belief, I do not dislike you. I don't get pissed off at other people online. All that does is takes years away from ya. There is something that most folks learn as they go through life. If someone gives you advise that will not benefit them directly, they are giving it to you freely. So just take a seat and try to actually learn something while you're here.

It's what I'm trying to do if you don't see that. The gun was purchased by him, for him. He is willing to let me shoot it. Then when I turn 21, I will be able to buy it from him. Nothing wrong there. Just like me planning to buy any other handgun from any other person when I turn of age. No harm, no foul. I've committed no crime.

I am a big fan of Rugers and have shot the 1911 a few times. Good guns. I have been tossing it around and am thinking strongly of getting one in the commander (4 1/4" barrel) I have a nice Para in the full size. Anyway, as said before, shoot as often as possible and get the workings of the firearm imprinted in the brain. Should serve you well for a long time. Carrying locked and cocked takes some practice so for Petes sake be careful.

That wasn't what you said in the post I quoted. But aight, I personally don't believe we need FOID cards, or carry permits, or anything of the like. So you aren't hurting my feelings any. Though since you posted it on an open forum, there is a trail.

"I've decided and ordered my first duty weapon. It's a Ruger .45 1911. Very excited. Any tips, etc. please don't hesitate to let me know."

When read this means something.

"Chief is purchasing and keep at his house. Then I'll be able to shoot it whenever so I can get use to it before I become a CLEO."

This means something else.

"No? It's his. Not mine. I am able to shoot it when I want. Then when I am 21 years of age, he will give it to me. Get over yourself."

This means something different than the first two.

"You love busting my balls don't you? Lol. If you don't like me, get away from me? I don't need your input. I was under the impression that this forum was for constructive help?"

This is contradictory to your first post. You really didn't mean, "Any tips, etc. please don't hesitate to let me know."

"It's what I'm trying to do if you don't see that. The gun was purchased by him, for him. He is willing to let me shoot it. Then when I turn 21, I will be able to buy it from him. This is completely different from your first three explanations about "Your" new gun.

"All I said was I had it ordered?"

No, that wasn't all you said.....

Be expecting a PM.
