Hi everyone I have just been given a Rossi Model 68 (.38 Special) and I was just curious as to the history/age of this gun and any other information you have on it.There isn't that much on YouTube or Google so I figured I might try asking around here.
Thanks!

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ what he said^^^^^^^^^^^------- I have a Rossi lever .44 rifle that has actually been and is a great shooting rifle. The handguns to me are a little iffy-----just feel cheap in the hand. Rossi is made at the same factory as Taurus----down in South America. my experience and I have heard--it`s a crap shoot when getting one-----one may be a great shooter, the next may be a turd. I would definetly have it checked for timing, lock-up and overall condition before shooting it.

can't really say much about history other than the model 68 as i recall has been around a good while.

Thought them to be a pseudo copy of Smith & Wesson........unless i am getting my model numbers mixed up.

Grips will not innerchange with smith. Most folks i know bought them for nite stand or glove box guns. The firing pin is on the hammer like older Smith's. I have seen more rossi revolvers with broken hammer mounted firing pins than Smith revolvers.......perhaps they should not be dry-fired.????

I would probably avoid +P ammunition as well. those thoughts are about the model 68 i am familiar with back in the Interarms import days. Have no idea about modern Rossi revolvers.

Years back i considered Rossi revolvers to be a superior product over Taurus revolvers.. Nowadays, Taurus owns Rossi.....so i don't have a clue about modern Rossi revolvers.

I agree not to dry fire it or use +P ammo in it. I picked this up at a gun show a few months ago from a dealer that I know and and from the information that was left in the box I believe it was made around 1993. It was imported by Interarms of Alexandria, Va. which is no longer in business and Rossi or Taurus does not keep any records from back then. It is in good condition, locks up tight and I have put about 50 rounds through it. I hope you have good luck with yours.

Many years ago I had a Rossi .38Spl revolver. I bought on a whim for $40 from a co-worker, three days before payday. He ran out of money and needed a drink. He got the better end of the deal. It had a heavy trigger pull and was extremely finicky about the ammo it would shoot (light strike marks on most ammo). And when it did manage to shoot, lets just say the local barns were safe.

A year later, it disappeared with my ex-wife. She stole it, when she left. I was glad to see both go!
