Default The 45 colt is home finally.

I dated it to 1980 S/N Prefix N679. Ran 50 rounds though it today. Shoots great. 40 bucks for a box of ammo ouch. Glad im reloading for it.

Yeah .45 Colt is expensive stuff. I don’t load for them yet but soon enough. I’m just about out of reloading components in all calibers. I haven’t reloaded any thing in years but I should.

Those old N frame Smiths are hard to beat. You got a winner. As you just found out the big bore revolvers prices are through the roof.
You might check Lock Stock and Barrel listings on Gun Auction for reloading bullets and brass. They often have good deals on jacketed and lead factory bullets. Their component listings are normally the last pages of their items. All I saw this week in the .45 catagory was .452 ACP. They will post a new list on the 16th.

Cool i have the site saved. I was going to order brass from starline. I'll wait and see what comes up on the 16th. Can 45 acp be fired in the revolver? It didn't come with a booklet.

Yes it's one of those rounds you can shoot for less than 1/4 of ammo cost if you reload....especially if you cast boolits. All revolver ammo is pricey compared to semi auto stuff, even 38 special is expensive and there is no reason for it. Nice gun to btw!

So with those bullets at around .10, primers at around .04 and powder you're roughly at +/-$10 a box not counting brass cost. Sure beats $40 any day!

No! You can't fire 45 ACP in your N-frame Smith. "I assume it's a Model 25." All 45 ACP cases are rimless. I used to have a revolver that fired 45 ACP. It was a Ruger Blackhawk Convertible. It had two cylinders. One for 45 Colt the other for 45 ACP. The 45 ACP cylinder headspaced the round on the mouth of the case. The Blackhawk is a very strong gun and I loaded the 45 Colts to essentially 44 magnum energies.

And, DON"T try to duplicate Ruger Blackhawk hot reloads for use in the S&W M25. The S&W was designed to shoot classic .45 Colt cartridges, not ".44 Mag Wannabe's".
