The subject of Executive Orders has come up.

My understanding is that the president CAN issue an Executive Order, as long as it does not contradict any existing law passed by Congress.

If Congress does not agree with it, they must take action to overturn it.

So maybe he CAN wave a wand.

Red Erkel's Gestapo is for real. After the leery glances it got the first time he proposed it, he would have dropped the idea if he wasn't serious.

A lot of people have a distorted idea of what the Gestapo really was, based on bad war movies. They were not an army of super-efficient plainclothesmen in fedoras and trenchcoats, armed with PPKs. They were mostly a huge ring of civilian informants, dropping the dime on neighbors they didn't like for everything from blackout violations to food hoarding to jew sheltering. The informants got official-looking papers to hang on the wall, cute little buttons with swastikas on them, and an inflated sense of self-importance. Heinrich Himmler had a mad genius for manipulating the worst among his fellow citizens to serve his own ambition, and the Gestapo was merely one result. Obama has ambition to rival Himmler. Heck, he has ambition to rival Lucifer.

Exactly. When you consider Obama's statement about a "Civilian Security Force," it starts to take shape. With such a security force they will argue that we no longer need firearms for personal defense...that won't be necessary. The "Civilian Security Force" will take care of all of our defense needs.

Good points to keep in mind in the next few years. It may be a good idea to watch what you say in public: there very well may be someone listening that will report your "treasonous rhetoric". I wouldn't be surprised if there was already a list of "probable troublemakers" (which most of us may already be on) being drawn up somewhere. In the Brave New America, "Constitutionalist" is interchangeable with "Domestic Terrorist".

I'm pretty averse to calling names but I do feel that you are being more than a little naive, if (a) you think the POTUS is mostly ceremonial (ask anyone who's been visited by a $1.5M cruise missile if they wish to stand on ceremony, or (b) incapable of "waving his wand" to effect whatever "CHANGE" he desires.
With the Perfect Storm of one-party political takeover three-quarters accomplished, it's a mere matter of time before the last 25% falls. Just look at the facts:
    · The #1 most liberal senator is elected POTUS with tremendous support from the liberal press and the usual band of uber-lib organizations.
    · Already in the majority, the Dems expanded their 30-seat majority in the House and have a very good chance of having a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate, given the millions of dollars of leftover campaign contributions that is being poured into the runoff election in Georgia and the fact that Ted Stevens in Alaska may well be defeated. Oh, and lets not forget the election that’s in the process of being hijacked in Minnesota, by the lovely and talented Al Franken.
    · It only takes one more liberal on the SCOTUS to make a 5-seat majority. While the oldest members of the court are liberals, Kennedy, the see-saw vote, is 72 and rumored to be considering retirement.
    · The dems intentionally left hundreds of federal judgeships unfilled during the Bush presidency in order to fill them with their people in the coming administration.

The man has a very clear agenda which he has been honing over the past six months. He was so confident of winning this election (which was pretty predictable, given the half-billion dollars he had to work with, much of which is from foreign or other questionable sources) that he was forming policy concurrent with his campaigning. There’s also that nagging statement, “We cannot continue to rely only on our military, in order to achieve the National Security objectives that we've set. We gotta have a civilian National Security Force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded..." from his .

Elimination of privately-owned firearms is in the top ten of his “To Do” list, you can be sure. To think otherwise is even more dangerous than naïve. Words mean things. When Ahmadinejad says he wants to annihilate Israel, it's best to listen. When Medvedev says he'll aim missles at Poland, it's not a threat. When our president-elect says that Americans have the right to own guns because they have a right to HUNT ... I listen.
