Default Possible phishing email from supposedly Academy Sports.

I didn't link to my account via the email. When i logged in. There was no notice to change my password. So if anyone gets this please use caution.

Thank you for being an academy.com customer. We appreciate your business.

Academy is continuously working to enhance customer security. As a part of that effort, we are implementing a new password policy with additional security features to help protect your online account. You will be required to update your password the next time you log in to access your account.

To change your password on academy.com:

    1. Log in to your account at academy.com.
    2. You will be prompted to create a new password. Otherwise, you can do so from the Profile option in My Account or by clicking on "Forgot your password?" on the sign-in page.
    3. We suggest a complex, unique password that you change regularly.
    4. Once complete, you will receive an email verifying that your password has been changed.
    5. For security reasons, Customer Care is unable to change passwords on your behalf.

We encourage you to regularly update your password on academy.com and any other sites where you use the same credentials.

If you have any questions, our Customer Care team is ready to help. Please call: 1-888-922-2336.

We appreciate you taking the time to help us ensure your account is secure.

Appears to be legit to me. What you don't want to do is click on links. You can go directly to a site by typing in the address like "academy.com"

So call Academy and ASK them

I went to my Academy account and logged-in.
    Didn't request a password change.

Ignore the email and if someday you login to Academy.com and it wants you to change your password, change it and move on.

I called. They did send out emails. They are in the process of updating the security. And want customers to make a more secure password.

I seem to be getting on your case lately but it's not my main purpose. For the safety of others please do not post any URL or link that you don't know to be safe.

My spam filter catches a lot of junk but I get all types of emails daily. There is way too much to be concerned about other than to just ignore the bogus ones and be careful of what I click on.

I was submitting paperwork at my local police station yesterday to renew my carry permit. As I was leaving an elderly lady came in and wanted to report "scam emails." she got on her phone. I wanted to stay around to find out if she got scammed or what she expected them to do or what they told her but I just left. I just thought to myself that that lady had a lot of time on her hands or maybe she was lonely. I hope she didn't fall for anything from what little I got I don't think she did.

    Basic Internet safety advice:
Do not click on any unknown links or open unknown attachments.
Don't fall for any password change request or verification of any account information.
Go directly to the site by typing in the URL or using a saved safe link. You can then change your password or conduct any business at the genuine site.
Don't call any numbers listed to verify -- again call a known good number if you have any questions.
