Default Man's Number One Enemy: His Own Large Numbers

There should be no more people in this world than what is required for long, comfortable, healthful and happy human living for everybody. Period.

Population too high means: widespread poverty, hunger, disease, pollution, loss of free space, high crime, misery

Population too low means: primitive caveman lifestyle, having modern comforts, medicine, culture and conveniences requires a certain degree of manpower to achieve: a world population as low as ten people cannot live in air-conditioned modern homes, have running water, have electricity, have telephones, drive automobiles, watch TV, be well-fed, be well-clothed and have modern dental care and medical care for 80+ years of life: they can be hunters and gatherers like Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden at best

Do you enjoy shooting guns for recreation, hunting, fishing, boating, hiking and camping in the beautiful, roomy, natural and unpolluted outdoors? This cannot be possible if there are too few people in the world or even too many people in the world. Ideally you want just enough people to produce all these things, make them possible, but not too many to consume all the necessary resources to make all these things sustainable and enjoyable for many if not for most or for all. The planet is limited in size and can only fit so many people and other living things comfortably.

So, what human world population is best for the good of mankind as a whole? There is a happy medium somewhere in the numbers.

Does any person here agree with me?

Is there a practical solution to overpopulation?

I feel the best weapon is GOOD EDUCATION, the eradication of human ignorance regarding the "be fruitful and multiply" notion that's totally out of touch with the modern world.

Good grief. An ideal population is relative to available resources. The resources available 150 years ago wouldn't support more than a couple hundred million people.

As resources grow, so does population. One of the more simple cause and effect relationships you'll ever find.

In point of fact, populations exploded because of oil production. Increased efficiencies and quantities of energy and other resources related to oil production are what make increased populations possible.

Populations grew out of the sheer stupidity of man. Resources didn't twist man's arm to make many more babies.

To me, an ideal population is relative to comfortable, safe, healthful, happy and long-life living. Taxing resources to their limits doesn't make for comfort.

Land space, natural cover, arable soil, forest, clean air and clean water are all precious resources.

Sure man can live packed like sardines until he dies of starvation but I would find that a highly miserable existence and would prefer
a speedy bullet-in-the-head death over it.

I just wish to point out, that if we lived at the density that people live in Manhattan, the entire global population could fit in New Zealand. Just saying.

    Wow....Holy wow.
People crushed by laws, have no hope but to evade power. If the laws are their enemies, they will be enemies to the law; and those who have most to hope and nothing to lose will always be dangerous.

    I don't.

You encourage population control in your thinking, but who will create guidelines. We currently have liberal population control through immoral practices which are not limited to abortions only. What "moral and ethical" means would you accept as a practice to enforce population control? You mention living space and living comfortably. By whose definition is "comfortable" and what is an adequate living space?

I encourage John Preston to reduce the population by one.
