    Devil Happy Halloween!

Any little devils at your door yet?

8 PM here in Lawton, Oklahoma and not one here yet on the west side. Lit pumpkin is out and all the spooky stuff.

This is a neighborhood with children.

Not one neighborhood kid! They tend to hit the developments and lake areas because the houses are closer together. We have 3 nieces that live a mile away and two little girls up the street. I buy BIG chocolate bars, around a pound each for them. They always make the trip and it’s great to see them.

Ditto here. High winds, rain and occasional lightening. It's been rescheduled for tomorrow night.

There are only 4 completed and occupied houses on my street, all new construction. And wouldn't you know, three families with 8 children came to MY HOUSE! The "big bowl" o'candy from Sam's Club fended them off.

This is Lawton, Oklahoma. I don't think local culture supports Halloween. Not a single little devil came to my door. I live in an apartment complex on Motif Manor but there are houses with children all up and down my street. School buses stop in the neighborhood. Not one house had their front porch lights on and not a single Halloween decoration except mine on my block. This is still a suburban subdivision with houses all close to one another. Now I know better. No more than one small bag of candy next year.I went out of my way to put out a carved pumpkin with a candle. Nice festive decorations in my window and front door area. If you were out on Motif Manor street, you couldn't help but see the glowing smiling pumpkin in my complex greet passers-by. I feel slapped in the face. Is childhood innocence and old-fashioned simple fun now all dead in America? There were three children dressed like ghosts down about a half a block. One shouted Happy Halloween. They stopped at one house down there and started heading up toward my apartment complex, LaneStone, but they just passed it by. I had a lit pumpkin visible to the street and everything. The children might only hit the homes of people they know. Southerners are cliquish and there are a lot of Southern drawls in Oklahoma even though this state was never part of the Confederacy. This is the Bible Belt and all these fundie "more hallowed than thou" church types might view Halloween as the devil's craft. Lawton is a military town with neighboring Fort Sill army post: field artillery training center of America. Cannons booming and shaking my apartment. The military children probably do their Halloween thing in their military housing community.

Here in the Philadelphia western suburbs, we got 30 kids. Last year, only 11. Our weather was 70 degrees, no rain. But areas 80 miles west had to cancel due to rain, high winds, and plunging temperatures. Today we are 30 degrees cooler.
