Initially we thought a single small plane hit the first tower then as reports came in we began to understand what had happened. My wife and I had been in the city just a few weeks before during an annual NY trip. My friends in the trades I grew up with built those towers. A friend of mine was a NYFD battalion chief who was off that day but obviously called in. Another friend was on his old brownstone roof in Brooklyn watching with his daughter when "stuff" began falling from the sky on him and his daughter.

During the years that followed I haven't a clue how many times as my wife and I drove over the George Washington Bridge and I could not bring myself to look to my right at the skyline I knew and loved. Those bastards attacked "my city". Hard to believe 18 years have passed. No, I will never forget.

They built the One World Trade Center in place of the twin towers. The One World Trade Center is a beautiful building and a giant middle finger to terrorism. It shows that we will just come back stronger. Eighteen years ago today, were we a bit shook up? Yes. Were we beaten? Are we going to let terrorists have their way with us? No. We're the USA.

I remember back when they were trying to figure out what to replace the twin towers with.
They had a contest and asked for submissions. I sent one in which was the towers rebuilt 1 story taller and on top of each tower a giant middle finger structure which would also be used as the antennas.
I wounder why my submission was not chosen.

Probably for political correctness reasons, they wouldn't want anything that is shaped too much like a middle finger, but the One World Trade Center I think is adequate, it very clearly does represent a giant middle finger to terrorism.

I was standing over a plasma table where I worked when one of the managers walked by with a sheet of paper and one of the tower in flame. I went cold when he showed me and almost quit my job on the spot, to travel east to assist.

Glad I didn't considering the health complications many of the responders suffer from afterwards. And in some cases dead as result.

you do realize that 9-11 wasn't against the American people, but it was against the government and business interest?

the American people were collateral damage.

If it had been against the American people they would of chose other targets other than trade center. Like superbowl stadium on superbowl Sunday..

In no way is this comment meant to detract from those of you who lost people you knew. Its just that people thought you and I needed to be woken up to what our elites have been doing on our behalf outside the country. And how our behavior and consumption was destroying people's lives outside the US borders. So we could live our high standard of living at the expense of others.

I managed to listen to an unedited version of osama bin laden tape to the US. It is nothing like the edited version that was aired mainstream when they blamed him for 9-11 after the Attack. There was a LOT of material to work with and manipulate into making him say something he never did. What was aired was cut and spliced into something completely different than original unedited version. . Its the same voice so its not doctored.

    Are you kidding me.
    So poor OBL was misunderstood.
So I guess when the Japs bombed Pearl Harbor it was not an attack against American people.
They just wanted to get our governments attention.
and how our behavior and consumption was destroying people’s lives outside our borders so we can live our high standard of living at the expense of others.
What a crock. We are the most generous country on the planet. Always helping in disasters. We take in more legal immigrants than anyone. Our Freedoms have raised the standard of living all around the world with our inventions and medicines. An attack, especially on our soil IS an attack on all Americans.
I am and always will be UNAPOLOGETICALLY AMERICAN
And if anyone now that we have been woken up thinks that we deserved what we got I can think of a few places where you might feel better about yourselves to move to
