Sold all of my Walmart and Walgreen's stock yesterday and the day before. They both made me a LOT of money but no reason to participate with either of them now.

Wife and I moved 17 years ago, and since then we have not had a Walmart closer than 20 miles away. Before we moved we frequented Walmart a little, but we have found little use for Walmart now. We are planning a move again next spring that will put us 35 miles away from the closest Walmart as far as I can tell. We enjoy the local smaller businesses in our communities, and prefer friendly businesses that are owned and run by our neighbors. Walmart might employ local people, but they do not give a hoot about them.

Last time i was in Walmart in this area, I looked around in the sporting goods for a minute...it was mostly all junk, and mostly all Chinese junk. The ammo they had was common fodder could be found at our local farm stores for similar cost.

We we visited a brand new Runnings store about 30 miles north of us last week. Nice store. Had a good gun, archery, hunting and fishing sections in the store. Plentiful guns and ammo selections. I talked with the manager in that section of the store briefly, because I was looking at the selection of reloading supplies and equipment, and he explained how he was slowly going to expand the reloading supplies over the first year. He was trying to find out what folks wanted locally available most so as to build those stocks up first and foremost, and then continue to fill customer demand. He assured me that he could get anything I wanted without any additional shipping etc. as long as I could wait a few days for him to get it in, at most a week. Prices were reasonable for brick and mortar store

Walmart is no big loss to me, but their political positioning is a depressing indicator of where our country is drifting towards.

Walmart is still the 800 pound gorilla. They have unmatched buying power. They can undersell anyone they want to. They can lose money on many items and still be in the black. They have enormous real estate and easily a one stop destination for anything from groceries to power tools. They're the bully on the block.

I shouldn't have been surprised but was when I visited Tetra, the fish food people, and found out Walmart would send stuff back for any reason and make other demands about shipping product. I asked them what they did and they said they just ate the loses and bowed down to their demands because they had no choice to keep doing business with them. Like most businesses they put on a happy face but behind the scenes they are as brutal as they need to be to survive.

Walmart's not quite the enemy yet but be wary of their might. There's no David on the horizon to put down the Goliath.

We finally got an ALDI local. They built it across the street from walmart. I noticed walmart is comping them on prices. So i don't know if the ALDI will last or not. We had a save-a-lot before and it lasted maybe a year, i checked the ammo. It's not getting wiped out. Just that one guy i saw buying a bunch of 223 ammo.
