I was out at one of our bush spots shooting my 380's. Someone else came there to shoot too. But he forgot his targets. I told him he's welcome to shoot at my steel. He offered me a chance to shoot his beretta 92. I must say it's a nice running gun. I enjoyed the chance to shoot it.

I have a Taurus based off the Beretta machinery (except made in Brazil). I have had it since, I think, I was 16...so a good 34 years. I've put probably at least 6K rounds through it over the years, only did slight modification (new trigger kit, lighter mainspring, fire dragon and rubberized grips, hogue, I think). In the time I've had it, it jammed once and I determined at the time that it was a bad round...not the gun. Anyone that asks me what I think of the 92- I tell them I have no complaints, it's workhorse for sure!

I had a 92 (40 S&W). Gave it to #3 son. It would throw about half the brass back in my face. I enjoyed everything about it except that feature..

I really have no idea how many times I shot the M9 pistol; never tried to keep track. Never had any problems with the pistol except, as has been said already, they tend to throw brass like a mad man! I can recall them going under both my BDU and t-shirt and burning my chest...always amazed how they got in there! Sometimes they would bounce off my ear or the brim of my cap and sometimes down the back sneaking past the back of my collar. They were accurate enough; the Air Force considered my prowess  with the M9 worthy of a marksman ribbon (I think their expectations were a bit low) but I figured I shot well enough I could survive for a brief time if I was forced to depend on the gun. While I found them to be okay, though I cannot say I liked the exposed barrel, I never really thought enough of them to want one. My FNX 9 in comparison is quite accurate and makes nice piles of empties for me to retrieve, never bouncing them off of me.

Just a bit of trivia. Beretta is the oldest (493 years old) manufacturing company on the planet and thee oldest firearms manufacturer. Something all of us should respect.

Yep.
You hold it and you feel THE quality.

I carry the M9 version upgraded with the steel parts kit and an aluminum lanyard loop, and while in the service that was my standard issue sidearm. I have never had an issue with it in terms of reliability. I did have some accuracy issues with my service pistol but a few trips to the range with an armorer fixed that up and i find them a pleasure to shoot. The trigger pull for the first round is a bit on the heavy side but depending on usage that can be a good or bad thing. I tend to prefer a lighter trigger myself.

i do respect the older taurus 92/99/100/101 series..........and i really like the capability to carry cocked and locked.

the beretta 92s surplus looks interesting.......except for the tiny sights and RH only controls. The weird mag release does not bother me. I shot a borrowed one a few months back.....sweet shooter and very accurate if you take your sweet time with those sights.
