    This is why.
The difference between a Socialist and a Communist is that the Socialist doesn't have all the guns yet.

Because it poked straight out of the top of the upper (there were many changes to the original design).

That is why I said "original design".

I don't really know, but to do so would have required them to also come up with a rear sight as well. I guess nobody wanted to open that can of worms at the time.

There are some of those uppers floating around out there. ( $$$ <---- that's why I don't have one.)

There are two reasons that I know from boot camp One is that in drill you will never use it. 2 Because once you hit MCT or ITB pretty much from there and on all the rifles that you will get issued will have RCO's and a tactical sling rather then the parade sling. So it helps so you don't get in a bad habit of carrying it like that plus it takes longer to return fire when carrying it like that.

If you aren't in some branch of the military carry it how you want.

We were taught to not carry by the carry handle because it is not and I quote...."it's not f**king luggage".

Muzzle discipline and all that non sense. Hence the low ready.

Most have done away with the carry handles (removable) on the M4's.
