Could be but here they're at least $100 more and like I said I couldn't find any stores that sells their tracking modules and it's the thing that's most likely to fail. As for Steam, they've open the gates to the Oculus, I have a steam account and can buy any games on steam, the Oculus works as good on Steam I've bought a few games there "hot dogs horseshoes and hand grenades" is one of them

They say time flies when you're having fun, it should also say times flies faster when you're old.

I think yo're missing the point. It is more budget friendly because the requirements of the PC to run it are much lower. It would cost half as much as the PC required to run the Oculus. Don't get me wrong, I think the Oculus is the Top of the VR market right now. I just think a price/quality/feature spreadsheet is necessary now for anyone looking to start in the VR world and I haven't seen one. It is difficult right now to experience these differences without buying in.

EDIT: The more I look into VR, the more confused I get. So apparently there is the HTC Vive, and the HTC Vive Pro. The Pro is nearly $1000 more and is considered the new top dog of the VR market. I think if I were only interested in gaming I'd stick to the playstation VR. It's the most economical and easiest to set up for that purpose. The Oculus Rift seems to be that for the higher end PC environment. And the HTC Vive Pro is for the guys with no budget constraints and like complicated systems.

I have to admit I've never looked into PC requirements, my concern were if I could get after sale service and/or replacement parts if one failed and if the systems were going to give me the best VR I could get. The ones that came in after considering my criteria were the Vive and the Oculus. Vive came in second because of the lack of parts so I got the Oculus and very happy I did.
If I were to get one today,,, well I wouldn't, knowing what I know now I'd wait for the Quest cause it seems like the best one for under $400 without the need for anything else but the headset and controllers no wires at all, portable, imagine bringing this to a family Christmas party lol

VR is only going to get better, even though it's been around for like 2 years it's only beginning to make waves, remember the Atari 2600? or the radio shack computers, comodore 64 well VR is at that stage right now but technology is growing so much faster now specially for Oculus since it's Mr. facebook's little kid (millions to back it up) Personally I hate FB but if you have a product backed up by someone who has unlimited funds for research and development you're more likely to have a front runner.
They're even working on a rift 2 with a wider field of view and more resolution, adjustable focus etc. Can't wait

The quest is coming out this spring at $399 No wires no expensive computers for those who were waiting for the best thing (without a computer) in VR

Lol I have to admit I can't help but smile when I think of the playboy days, what you see in 3D is like BEING the photographer for playboy... without having to take pictures
