    This.

My big issue with active shooter drills (both at school and places of employment) is that more often than not the shooter, who is usually a classmate or coworker is also being trained and knows exactly what's going to happen once him or her starts shooting.

I really don't see students participating in these drills. I'm all for them. Not even police know what to expect when or IF they go in to stop the threat. The one in Fla stood outside and the one in Connecticut stood outside. The one in Connecticut was waiting for back up, really? wtf!? still wont get over that one. No one knows how the shooter/s will operate. Least these teachers, the ones willing, will have training and know how to react and protect as many of the children zs they can. They are the first responders.

Active shooter drills may not stop school shootings

Agreed. Active shooter drills MAY not stop school shootings. School lockdowns MAY not stop school shootings. Hardening security MAY not stop school shootings. Armed school employees MAY not stop school shootings.

Believe it or not, the proactive approach, in which schools "identify students who are doing concerning behavior or may be in distress and getting them the help they need before they even resort to violence as an option", which seems to be the author's solution to school shootings, MAY not stop school shootings.

What is a given is that doing nothing WILL NOT stop school shootings.

Personally, I believe parents should be held responsible for the actions of their children.
