California Ammo Background Check Now, If you live in California and want to buy Ammo you have to pay a $1 Standard eligibility check Fee to the California DOJ every single time you want to buy Ammo. However, if you haven’t purchased a rifle or shotgun since 2013, or a handgun before 96, this means you also aren’t on Californias little pre-confiscation gun registry list, and thus they don’t know what guns you own. So you know what the means? You have to pay $19 for a Basic Eligibility Check every time you want to buy Ammo and it could take up to 10 days to be approved and if you are approved you can only purchase Ammo once within 30 days of approval or you can register the guns you’re not legally required to register and have to pay only $1.
The most significant portion of the act is the first paragraph, which limited the tax rate for real estate:
Section 1. (a) The maximum amount of any ad valorem tax on real property shall not exceed one percent (1%) of the full cash value of such property. The one percent (1%) tax to be collected by the counties and apportioned according to law to the districts within the counties.
is responsible for all manner of "weird" taxes there.
The "tax," on ammunition resembles a "sin" tax, much like we see on cigarettes or a "use" tax on gasoline.
The tax on cigarettes goes toward offsetting medical issues while the gasoline tax presumably goes to roads and stuff.
The question arises: "Where does the increase in ammo tax go?"
Obvious to the most casual observer is that the majority of voting citizens of California don't care much about guns and stuff.
