Default Gun Background Check Record: 2+ Million Checks Each Month of 2019

    10 Jul 2019

Over two million background checks for gun sales were conducted during each of the first six months of 2019.

This marks the first time over two million checks have been conducted during each of the first six months of a given year in the history of the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS).

FBI figures [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] 2,165,094 background checks were performed in January, followed by 2,053,886 in February, and 2,644,851 in March. There were 2,334,249 checks in April, 2,349,309 in May, and 2,312,309 in June.

Background check numbers were over two million for each of the first five months of 2018, and each of the first four months of 2017 and 2016. Yet no year except 2019 has witnessed over two million each month for the first six months.

The number of background checks performed is not a precise indicator of the number of guns sold, and that is because the check is performed on the person rather than the gun. This means a person who passes a background check may purchase multiple guns during one trip to the gun store.

Moreover, some states perform background checks on concealed carry licensees, and those figures are contained in the overall numbers reported month-to-month by the FBI.

how will the gun grabbers spin this?

    more "super gun owners"?
gun makers intentionally flooding the market driving prices down?
the right wing is arming?...causing the lift wing to arm?....edging us closer to confrontation?
paranoia over a trump impeachment causing panic buying?

maybe....just maybe......the numbers of gun owners is growing, the explosion of the economical line of firearms from affordable handguns like Ruger LCP/LC9, economical bolts like the axis and patriot, the competition in the AR market, and the over-all general direction of the race to the bottom of the ladder (pricing) from many gun makers creating innovative designs and competition and attracting new customers and increasing repeat customers.....who can now afford that 2nd or third gun.....and the quality is decent instead of make-do......

I thought gun sales were down and that was much of the reason Elletts just folded? I guess I'm confused....

Ellett Bros seems to have fallen the same way some other companies like remington have went........bought by someone, used as a funnel for capital and loans, and then bankrupt/close.....

Ok. I'm pretty sure i read a story(probably on here) about how they spent so much money buying guns in anticipation that hillary would win and there would be a buying frenzy. Then it was reported there was a gun buying slump because Trump won which caused them to sit on their inventory and fold.

you probably did....as did i.......just like there are different stories out there about remington going bankrupt and blaming it on slumping sales.......but then an article surfaces like this one. [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

been a while, but i really enjoyed that big ole' ellett bros catalog......reminded me of Wards. They certainly had a nice selection of firearms......but it was all the accessories and related stuff that i liked.....from predator and game calls to cleaning supplies to clothing........they seemed to be the Sears of shooting/hunting sports.

i am guessing that a catalog business has gone the way of the dinosaur as well.....too much internet competition from amazon and such and inventory is a killer.

but i hate reading about any sound company that gets bought, then thru smoke and mirrors they bleed the cash cow dry and then discard.....

Gun sales are down. Permit requirements are stricter in states like California and Washington. As background checks become a requirement for ammo, we'll see increases in the future. Not all background checks are approved.

    Saw that.

Not all NICS Checks are done on the sale of firearms. A growing number of checks are done on carry permits and carry permit rechecks.
