    Default Question

I read constantly that the best way to stop a bad guy with a gun, is a good guy with a gun. In the last 10 years, there has been 383 mass shootings for 1273 deaths. Not one case of a good guy with a gun, killing a nutter with a gun (yet this homily persists)

Almost every mass shooting has used a semi, or fully automatic weapon. Not one single mass shooting was stopped by a member of the public despite a reputed 3.7 million automatic weapons owned by the public. One, maybe two or three or a cupla dozen?

When a mass shooting takes place, the only one prepared is the criminal nut, but we give this clown a gun or two?????

    So my question

    - why does this forum support the general right to own deadly automatic weapons with a 383/0 hit rate to prevent mass killings?
    - why doe this forum support the general right to own deadly automatic weapons with 1.200:000/0 hit rate to prevent violent crimes?
    - The hit rate of violence using semi/modified/automatic weapons is 100% to kill and slaughter, zero to prevent or stop these types of crimes
    - The hit rate of citizen bearing arms to protect the Republic since the 1790's is zero.

The clear evidence is that guns cause crime, massively so., they are ineffective in the hands of the public to prevent crime, are centuries out of date for forming militias to protect the state.

You do not need guns in the hands of civilians in the USA.

    It's nuts

Guns do not cause crimes. The bad guy/gal does. The members here are law abiding citizens. Who would not use a gun to commit a crime. Many of us if we see a crime in action. Would do our best to stop it.

Well well, a real live anti-gunner coming on gun forum and openly expressing your position. Refreshing, most masquerade as something else. But you won't get the answers you're looking for, like the song from Arlo Guthrey (who? he says), but the song says "I just wanna kill, I mean, I just wanna KILL!"

Hopefully you will stick around and learn a few things, because what you are saying isn't exactly true .......

Nearly all the mass shootings you mentioned, occurred in "gun-free zones", meaning only the bad guy had guns. Legal law-abiding gun owners were not allowed to carry their firearms. Doesn't seem fair does it?

You need to re-check your "facts", because I can't think of one mass shooting where the shooter used a "fully-automatic" firearm. If you know of any cases where a fully-automatic firearm was used, please post it here, I'm curious.

Please follow the link here ------> [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] ..... and click on the dated articles and read how law-abiding citizens with guns, protected themselves and stopped crime.

Are you aware that in recent history, as the rate of gun ownership increased, the rate of gun violence has decreased, according to FBI statistics?

First off no mass shooter in this country has used a fully automatic weapon that I'm aware of. There have been some in the EU though. Secondly there have been some stopped by a good guy with a gun, the Church shooting in TX comes to mind. There have also been quite a few that were potential mass shootings but a good guy stopped it before it became a mass shooting, One that sticks in my mind was a guy at a barber shop in PA(philly or pittsburgh maybe). The amount of time it took you to type your question you could have researched it. The other big problem with good guys stopping mass shootings is many of them take place in gun free zones which legally bars a CCW from carrying their weapon with them. I just read a story yesterday about a woman in the Chicago area who saved her own life in a robbery attempt using a gun but now she is being prosecuted. The problem? While she has a foid card she can't legally carry her gun. I guess the govt feels she would be better off dead and the criminal go free. Not a mass shooting story but just one to give you an idea why people aren't carrying their legally owned guns in places like schools or other gun free zones.
And armed man is a free man, a disarmed man is a slave.

Also look at how they define a "mass shooting".
It makes it sound like Vegas or all school shootings. Not true.
Also how many one on one encounters have a good guy with a gun prevailed and stopped the slaughter of himself and his loved ones.
It is your right to not want a gun, I will never take that away from you.
Someday you may find yourself in a situation that will make you rethink your philosophy.
    But welcome to the forum.
If you are open minded, you may learn something by conversing with folks from the other side.

And from what utopian socialistic country do you come from where there is no crime?

You do not need guns in the hands of civilians in the USA.

    It's nuts
You should learn a few things.
First you should learn the difference between semi-auto and fully automatic.
Then you should learn the laws concerning fully automatic firearms, and thus why so very few citizens actually own them, let alone use them in acts of violence.
You should note, as some forum members have already pointed out, that most of the mass shooting happen in gun free zones making it illegal for a person to possess a firearm for protection.
You should note, that while the "nutters" may be violent and crazed, they are not so stupid that they do not realize where they can cause the most damage with these horrendous crimes; in gun free zones.
You might also learn through investigating that a large number of crimes have been thwarted by one citizen with a firearm, but they do not make much news because they do not fit your anti-gun agenda.
You should learn to look into all the statistics, not just those that can be used to support your agenda, and let all the facts be heard...you might be surprised by how much you can learn.

This forum supports the right to bear arms because it is a constitutional right, and a God given right that we might defend ourselves and our families from evil. And, by the way, stand against a government or institution that thinks to take away our rights.
No gun has ever caused a crime! They are inanimate objects incapable of instigating anything! It is evil in the hearts of men that causes crime, mischief and murder; the right to bear arms is the right to defend against evil people and oppressive government.
Our rights stand above your perception of our needs! I am quite content when I rest my head on the pillow every night knowing that some of my neighbors think like I do and our prepared to defend their loved ones, and I know they would stand with me just as I will stand with them. I have never committed any sort of criminal act with a firearm, and I have no intention of doing so. But, know this, I will defend all my constitutional rights.
    Knowing when and how...
