I'll be moving out of the nest in a few months. I've got an AR, a .22 rifle, my EDC LCPII and my 92FS.

I always had access to the parental unit's safe. I don't have a lot of capital to throw down for a safe. I imagine I'll be moving into an apartment, so I don't think you're allowed to bolt things to the wall?

Ideas for keeping the kids (guns, I don't have real children) safe?

Teach them gun safety and respect at an early age and then ongoing. Also teach them to never let anyone know you have guns in the home (i.e. teachers, doctors, school nurses).

Out of sight, out of reach......

I meant my guns were my kids. Sorry.

For now don't tell anyone you have guns. If no one knows. The temptation will not be there to steal them. There is also furniture that dubs as a gun hide away too. Not the most secure but it's something.

I haven't told my parents I'm moving yet. And I probably won't know anyone in the new place, I don't plan on telling new neighbors what I've got.

And anyone who is allowed to know the details of what I have, where it is, etc is welcome to use it, as I trust them with my life. That being said, it's not many people.

I'd leave all the kids, except your EDC, at your parent unit's house, until you get more settled into a house with a safe. And keep your EDC with you nearly all the time. The reason being landlords usually reserve the right to inspect their property, and you don't want them to stumble across your kids.

EDC is already basically glued to my side. Hmm, hadn't thought about random inspections. Thanks.

Get a small tool box bout three feet x two feet by one or something close. Get a lock n stuff it under your bed or some place else, use it as some table or something just out of the way so no one kicks it. Step further....get small lag screws n lag screw it down to the floor. 5/16" x 1-1/2" lags should be good, not more then four. When you move get wood putty n fill in the tiny holes. OR....keep your rifles at your parents house and get a single or double pistol safe n lag screw it to the side or behind some furniture / desk / bed or inside a closet. If the land lord asks why the box is screwed to the floor because he walked into it (hence being out of the way when its lagged to the floor) tell him you have valuables in there...jewelry, papers i.g. insurance / registration / financial records, money, etc. and you will repair the holes before you leave …. though really none of his business on whats inside. If you hang mirriors, pictures, phones, n what knik knaks (SP) on the wall, four tiny holes filled with wood putty is no issue.
