Mobil1 Synthetic for the AR platforms.

For bolt gun I use Montana Extreme bolt grease on the lugs.

Back when I was a newb, I bought the usual "gun oil" and "gun grease" from the gun store. Discovered that the old standby, 3-in-1 oil was about the same stuff and a lot cheaper, too. But since I still have the old "gun oil" and because it works I continue to use it.
m just about out of it now, and when it goes, I'll be switching to Mobil 1 oil and grease. I always have some here. It kills me that I bought all that stuff back then when I could have done like Alan does and just salvage drippings.

I've never had a reason to switch from Hoppes #9 lubricating oil and Hoppes #9 bore cleaner.

Better than both of those is the silicone based stuff. It’s a bit more slick and lasts longer.
For my guns I’ve tried different “gun Lubes” and even that military stuff. My Ex-DI father used 3&1 his whole life and I I’ve fallen back on it. It’s good but I may try the Mobil One sometime.

I know who swear by using WD-40 too - and it sucks. 3-n-1 is not a great oil as it is very thin and migrates WAY too much
If you want to go that route, get oil made for commercial sewing machines.

When nothing is available, spit always worked well for me; unless I had a dry mouth.

SLP 2000 is getting harder to find. Mobil 1 works really well. I also like SPECIALIST, by WD40.

More important than the lube, IMO, is how you apply it. Less is more. I use a lot of Q-tips.
