Default Ruger Security 9 Red Dot Sights

I would like to get a Red Dot Sight for my Ruger Securiy 9 but I am new to hand guns and the red dot sights.
Recommendations, how they are mounted, price is always a concern.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have Fastfire III 8MOA on one of my pistols. Works great. I just don’t like auto shut-off BS.
If money is not an issue, get RMR 6.5MOA LED.

I have looked at the two that you recommended and I dont see how they would mount to my slide.
There has to be some out there that do not require you to send your slide to a machine shop to be altered to mount a red dot on the slide.

    Thanks for your recommendations.

I've never had a red dot sight on a pistol. All other things that I don't like about them not withstanding, I have reservations about mounting anything beyond the regular sights on the slide of a semi auto pistol. I don't know for sure but I think it would change the way the slide operates in regards to cycling. The force generated by a shot might not be enough to cycle the action and reliably eject and load the next round. Also, whatever sight is going to take a beating being slammed back and forth when shooting.

I googled the sight and pistol in question and there is a you tube on mounting them. They appear to be kind of small so my concerns may not be an issue.

Having the slide milled is IMO the best option. However, there are alternatives. Some companies make an optic mounting plate that utilizes the dove tail that your current rear sight resides in such as [Only registered and activated users can see links. ].

Another option is to use the rail at the front of the pistol frame under the slide where most people mount a light like [Only registered and activated users can see links. ].
