Battle 1890s Atlas Gun Co. Jr. Rifle found in 19th Century Barn

I recently found an Atlas Gun Co. (ILION,NY) .22 Junior Rifle patented Feb. 18, 1890. The rifle has an 18" barrel and seems to be in great condition. At first, I thought it was an old toy gun because of its size. However, although aimed at young shooters, it is far from a toy. From what I understand the rifle is "The First Model" from Atlas Gun Co., who were only in business for a short span of time before being bought out...with this particular gun model being enlarged to a 20" barrel and sold through Sears and Roebuck's. I can't find one of these first models for sale anywhere. What do you guys think its collectors value is? Amazing to think of a Victorian times child using this little guy.

Here's one offered for a ridiculous amount of money: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] Hardly worth mentioning.

The "Atlas First Model" was made 1890-1903 with an 18 inch barrel. A "Second Model" with a 20 inch barrel was made for Sears Roebuck Company in 1906. The Atlas .22 rifle used an "unlocked" breech" design where the hammer was the only thing closing the breech, and it was intended ONLY for use with blackpowder .22 short ammunition. Although made in relatively large numbers, I am sure collectors of "Boys rifles" would love to own an example in decent condition.

If it has a 20" barrel, I believe you have a "Second Model" or a "Model 1906".

The difference between a Socialist and a Communist is that the Socialist doesn't have all the guns yet.

I'd have it looked over by an antique gun guy, just to be sure
