Question Searching For the Best New Ammo For My Ruger P-89 9mm

I've had my Ruger P-89 for over 25 years now and it is my primary ECD, I know it's a bit large for a CC but I've carried it as such for so long I feel naked without it. I have thought about getting something smaller but being on Disability limits my available funds. I would like to update the type of ammo I carry in it to something more modern though. Any recommendations from you guys out there would be appreciated. 45Shooter13 P.S. Here's a pic of "Ruby" as I call her.

The best ammo is going to be what that gun shoots the best. A lot of us here load our own ammo. And we find what is most accurate and reliable for the gun intended for the loads.

I currently don't do my own reloads as of yet (can't afford the equipment). I am looking for out of the box ammo to replace COR-BON +P 115 Hollow Point loads. For something more up to date in modern bullet technology. Also, I really can't afford to really comparison try a lot of different brands due to cost as well.

Most quality defense ammo is pricey.

That said, I use Speer Gold Dot.

Ranger XT is a great round.

I like the Hornady Critical Defense, but it's up over $1.25 a round.

Just got a Makarov. (Actually a Polish Radom P-64.) Their 9X18 round is .365 diameter, to 9mm Luger's .355, and they use less powder, hence less penetration.
OH, and the PPU ammo is about half what you pay for Hornady CD in 9mm Luger.

My choice is Hornady Critical Defense as well.

to be honest.............your corbon is good stuff.

The fbi and atf seem to change guns and ammo frequently, and so do various agencies........It changes when the bids go out......there is no brand loyalty if it meets standards.

    my ammo requirements are:
    major name brand
    a HP
    reliable
    available

i doubt if you can find a 1 or 2 percent difference in performance between golden sabre, pdx, gold dot, critical defense, or hst. And i doubt you will see a drastic performance change in stopping a suspect using those top of the line cutting edge loads compared to your corbon.

if i had to add one more preference it would be a nickel case.......but it is not a deal breaker.

Speer Gold Dot or Underwood Lehigh Defense and for the range Winchester, Federal, or Remington

Ther was an endorsement of this product the other day.
    Minuteman Ammo, LLC
Supposed to be self defense and range in one budget friendly purchase.
I want to try it out.
Would be great to know what you dial in at the range will perform the same for defense, and not break the bank..

I agree with deputy, Carbon is pretty decent ammo. Why change at all? If you must change then there are several good offerings already posted from Speer, Hornady etc. I would add that Federal HST and Remington Golden Sabers are also good. But there is absolutely nothing wrong with what Corbon produces (I believe they still use Hornady XTP bullets). On the good side, your P89 will likely consume about anything pretty well, they are notorious for feeding on all sorts of ammo with little or no difficulties. But you will still need to test any new ammo before you decide to carry with it.
