    Default Shotgun shell question:

    I was given 12g some shells and they say 3 1/4 - 1 - 8

    It says Remington and 2 3/4 70mm ..What kind of load is "3 1/4 - 1 - 8?"

    Thanks ahead of time.

3 1/4 is the Dram equivalent, this is a measure of power from when shotgun shells were loaded with blackpowder , the powder was measured in drams, the higher the drams, the more power. Modern shells are loaded with smokeless powder of course, which is measured in grains, the number 3 1/4 shows this shell is loaded with enough smokeless powder to give equal power of 3 1/4 drams of blackpowder.
The 1- 8 is one ounce of number 8 shot.

Yepper, like enzelow said, birdshot. Good for doves and quail depending on what type of choke and barrel length. Good for clays too.
