Default Please explain about smooth bore guns

Hi guys! A lot of gunstores give information Beretta shotgun barrels are hammer forged. I started to explore information about barrel production and found the piece that the process of smooth bore barrel production stops at the honing step. So I have a question what Beretta means their shotgun barrels hammer forged? Do they use smooth mandrel for hammer forging? For what purpose?

Please explain, guys! Can't even sleep because of this

The smooth mandrel would be my best guess the purpose. Uniformity and speedy mass production. Hammer forging machinery is capable of producing several barrels per batch run on the machine at one time. Much faster than producing barrels one at a time using other methods.

That's close enough that you can now go to bed. Pleasant dreams.
