    Default .50 gi

Well. The end of the deer season is upon us, so with only a few tags left to fill I decided to do a little handgun hunting with my buddy's .50 GI.

It is really overpriced, really really overpriced. But after shooting a hundred and thirty pound doe I cant argue with the terminal ballistics of its all copper round.

I wish I woulda kept the lungs for pictures, but I tossed em when I dressed her in the field.

I did however recover the bullet, and it preformed perfectly.

It was a simple ten yard shot. The doe must of wanted to die. Perfect broad side shot, But I missed her heart. She hardly ran thirty or so yards before she dropped. And when I was digging around in her right lung I hardly had to push my finger through the channel.

I measured the expanded bullet at more than an inch.

Here it is all cleaned up.

Thats an impressive bullet! I wish I could afford one right now.

I wouldn't want one of those inside me.

Got four days to fill two more tags. But I'm still kinda being picky. Had a shot on a button buck this am. But I'm not that hard up for meat. Already have a few hundred pounds in the freezer.

Anyway. Base price for the GI is iirc over three grand.

I do wish that someone would make those copper rounds in .45 acp. The owner of the .50GI did not patent his all copper bullet. But they are pricy. Something like 4 bucks a round for the 230 gr bullet. They have to be machined. So it's a process that costs a lot to produce em.

LOL. Like I said, it aint my gun. His was slightly higher than the base model. But he had the expensive, but unnecessary sights put on, and custom ivory grips. IIRC he paid over 4k for his.

Four grand for a pistol is, IMHO, excessive. Very excessive. But Im not going to begrudge someone for spending it. He got what he wanted.

Sounds like it works, what's a little cash for a tool that works good? I'll bet most oil men could afford one or two.

Thats true I guess. And you cant really put a price tag on your life. But there are a lot of firearms out there that do the job at a lower cost.

Id reckon that if someone would start producing that copper round in .45 that there would be exactly no reason to buy a GI.

I think they make GI uppers that can be used with 1911 or Glock frames. Those run for $1200 or so. I think
