Default What happened to all the ammo?!!

Is the current administration really the only reason why there is an ammo shortage? I went to the range yesterday with a friend and we decided to pass on shooting his .45 since ammo cost $50 for 50 rounds... that's $1 per bullet!!

Instead we paid the "cheaper" $22 for 50 rounds of .40cal which to me is still outrageously high.

What happened and how long will the shortage last?

Must be where you go to buy it. We are getting nearly everything here now. Got a box of .380 at chinamart yesterday for $18.00. 40 S&W was $15.00 per box, 9mm is $12.47 for WWB. They seem to have quite a bit. .22 was $15.47 for 550 Remington, they were out of the Federal. Had some of almost everything, didn't look at the 45, don't know what the price of that is, I don't have one.

I'm seeing more handgun ammo here in places i go too. Ain't been to WallyWorld to look though in awhile there. An call it a hunch, but i suspect that $50 a 50 Round box you saw might have been sum form of Defensive Ammo like TAP, or Gold Dots or such

You are shopping at the wrong places. Range ammunition has always been overpriced.

That's why hoarding is necessary, certainly when speaking of ammunition and cigars. I always buy as much of both as I can afford. Of course, that means that I have bought no ammo for the last year, but I still have plenty left. When prices settle down, I will replace what I have consumed over that time (plus more).

I fear that cigar prices will never return to where they were before the S-Chip tax was imposed, but I already have enough to last the rest of this lifetime, and part of the next. But I am always looking for a deal. . .

Prices are back down around here, ammo is almost plentiful, and I'm taking advantage of it to add to the pile. I'm adding bulk 7.62X39, 7.62X25, 12 ga buckshot, .40 S&W, .357 Mag, and .243 Win.

In my paranoia I don't believe it will be both plentiful and affordable forever.

Now, if I could find inexpensive bulk .44 Magnum for my carbine, I'd be a happy camper!

Here in SE Florida there is plenty of ammo, just priced about 3 times the 2008 prices, Thanks to the gun salesman of the decade.
