American Eagle .22LR

In the limited, sporadic availability of .22LR ammo at Dick’s, I’ve recently been running into American Eagle (by Federal) .22LR HV Cu-plated HP. It comes in boxes of 40 rounds and the Federal people tell me it’s rated at 1260fps. Does anybody know how clean-burning this stuff is?

I’ve read the threads about problems with it cycling in some semi-auto’s. Anybody have any experience with how it works in a Browning Semi-Auto .22 or a Ruger 10/22?

Another .22LR showing up sometimes at Dicks is CCI Quiet-22. It’s a sub-sonic round rated at 710fps. Will this stuff cycle OK in a Browning Semi-Auto .22 or a Ruger 10/22?

The American Eagle cycles fine in a 10/22 and doesn't seem to be much different from the other stuff as far as 'dirty' goes. But I clean the rifle every time I shoot it, so dirtiness isn't really a factor for me.

I've shot a lot of subsonic .22 in my 10/22, including rounds that say 'bolt action rifles only'. The 10/22 has cycled with every subsonic I've tried. PMC Match is kinda funny. The spent brass doesn't do what you'd call "eject". It just sort of "falls out" instead. It didn't stovepipe, though, which I was expecting.

All guns can be picky about what they are fed. One gun might love it and the next gun of the same make.model might choke on it. The only way to know for sure is to try it. The 10/22 generally is not very picky in my experience.......

No experience with CCI Quiet.........

American Eagle rimfire........not my favorite.....or least favorite, but sometimes you just have to work with what you got or can get.

Better than many, worse than many. Faster speed does not necessarily equate to more accuracy. At 1260 fps muzzle velocity, you are breaking the sound barrier twice, once when it is going down the bore and once before it hits a target at 100 yards. Both will affect accuracy. Try some ammo under 1120 fps.

No FTF or FTE here with the Federal. Can't say that about Winchester or Remington bulk.
