Default The silent bullets for .22's

I have been away from .22's since I was a kid hunting squirrels. That got me into sniper school in the army which got me into large caliber rifles and I forgot all about the little .22's until recently. I stopped with a friend by a gunshop for him to have a Glock worked on and I bought a cheap Marlin Model 60 Semi Automatic with a cheap 3 x 9 Tasco scope on it for $95. Man, I had forgot how much fun them little thing are. Well, I also bought several boxes of ammo to see what the rifle liked at the same time.
I bought one box of CCI CB's and I was beside myself when the first round fired. It didn't cycle the next round, which I have found out why now, but I liked the little thing.
I could hand load the CB's and shot the whole box up inside the city limits. Don't get mad at me. I have a 20 acre field behind the house and 38 acres of woods and most of the woods is in the county. Legally I am breaking the law, but there isn't a danged thing back there, and what is 29 grains of lead at 710 FPS going to do anyway?? Well, that is what this is about.. What will 29 grains of lead do at 710 fps????????
At 75 yards, you can't here it go off. It's an invisble sound there. But she will hit the bottom of a drink can at that range.
I need a pump, bolt, or lever action .22 rifle that will cycle the CCI CB's without a problem.
The Marlin 60 won't do it. I bought a Marlin 81DL bolt that seems to just be worn out but I am not sure if it is that or it simply doesn't like the bullets.
It will fire the Mini Mags OK, but nothing other than that chambers right.
I'll go ahead and buy a new rifle, if I know it will fire the silent type bullets but I don't know what to look for.
I have been hooked on shot guns, 30.06's and SKS's for so long and I just don't know snit about .22's any more.
I would rather have a good pump that will fire them if I can get one that I can "DEPEND ON"
One more thing is it needs to be tube fed.
So what is the cheapest, yet still good .22 rifle that I can buy new that will cycle the short and long CCI CB's???
I have racked my brain trying to figure this one out.
    Thanks for any advice.

The vast majority (maybe all) of .22 rimfire rifles manufactured today are chambered in .22 LR only. Several years ago, when I went on a similar search, I ended up with a rifle made in 1971.

Check the left side of the barrel. The caliber will be rollmarked there. You want one that says .22 S - L - LR.

+1 What Popeye said..good luck and glad you have a place to shoot. You definitely need a good bolt so you can use "whatever" load you have to play.......even a good lever gun.....

I missed why ...it must be a tube.....? trouble handling magazines with hands...? just wondering...

Also.....no better 22 made than the M 60...I wish you could get you a
" spare " recoil sprind assembly.....starting about 1/4 " cut off...then 1/8 as needed...you might or probably could fix the cycle problem ....

When barrel cuts have caused noticed "poundage " loss...this has fixed many of them for example......just a thought.....

You may need to possibly get -

The Henry lever action is marked S - L - LR. Might try one of those.

I was going to suggest a lever gun. Also, didn't Remington make(s) a pump and a semiauto that fires all three. Maybe called a Speedmaster?

Volquartsen sells an adaptor kit that will allow a Ruger 10/22 to function and cycle .22Shorts.

It includes charging handle with spring and rod, lightweight bolt, special magazine to feed the shorts, and everything else you need. Takes 10 minutes to switch back and forth....

I would imagine if you also put in a synthetic recoil buffer to stop the cycling noise of the gun it would be damn near silent.

I know my new .22, shooting Fiocchi Sub Sonics is pretty quiet.

I have been looking at the Henry pump with the octagon barrel but I hate sinking 500+ bucks into a .22. Actually, I would do it in a heartbeat if I had the paychecks still coming in like they were a few years ago, but I'll tell ya, trying to make it on $736 a month after earning better than a thousand a week sucks. It sure has made me learn what humble means.
I have had a few side jobs where people know me and know I have to take my time, and don't get pissed if I over do it one day and don't come back till next week, LOL, but they are few and far between. Work just isn't out there now.
I can bite on something in the $250-300 range OK I guess, but to be truthful with you all, I pretty much live day by day here now. It's getting a little better. Slowly but surely.
Hey, I am selling about 15 dozen eggs a week and have 60 eggs in a home made incubator right now. And growing the feed for them. LOL.
Got to the gun store last night and they were closed. There went 15 bucks of gas for nothing.
Does anyone on here have a .22 that will fire the CCI CB's consistantly they want to sell?????
I have a Marlin model 60 that will shoot the Mini Mags and never miss a lick and she'll put shots in a 2" circle at 100 yards I would trade in on a bolt, lever or pump action that will fire the CB's.
It has a 3x9 Tasco scope on it and you can drop a squirrel at 100 yards with a good rest. I'll even make a Bi-Pod for it if ya want one. Been planning on doing that anyway. I already have the materials. Just haven't gotten around to it yet.
One thing I will say for her. She will drop a deer in his tracks at 87 yards with a clean one shot, head shot. And I know that to be a fact.
Or I would buy one right out if someone is close enough to drive to and I can shoot a box of CB's in it before buying.
I don't care if it is a bolt, lever or pump, but I would give a little more for a pump.
Anyone has one they are willing to part with within 150 miles or so of Danville, Va. please PM me.
But I want to shoot it before buying. I bought one good gun if you use the mini mags and the bought a lemon because it is a bolt and says it will take S-L-LR right on the barrel. All it likes is the LR. Works about half time on longs and isn't happy with shorts at all.
