Default 1891 Mauser Custom Build , Pics

Here is the Wife and I's 1891 Mauser were building up into something unique and wonderful Click Thumb-Nail pictures to view large size Photos . Thanks for lookin !

It started as a well used but not abused Military Carbine for Argentina . It will become a Mannlicher Style Sporter that we love and so would Liberace' if he/she was still alive Just remember Liberace' always said too much of a good thing is WONDERFUL , and this Rifle will be said same when were done . Allot of this design and color scheme is the Wifes ideas too .
Here she is in stock configuration awaiting Inletting into a BOYDS RIA Walnut stock .

This is her Glass Bedded and MOCKED up with all parts installed to take a few photos for ya , and US to see it . This is ONE coat of Tung Oil .

Here is the Grip Cap in Fiddle-Back Maple as is the Forend Cap and Butt-Plate Spacer

This fine German Rifle will be getting a Bright Nickel finish on action and barrel , floor plate and magazine , and the Front sight Hood/Ears will be staying Blued to match the Rear sight we installed . Rear sight is the Williams TK Foolproof Target Peep . Will match that with a Post FIRE SIGHT Fibre Optic in RED from Williams too .
Componants for build are as already mentioned , with the addition of the Pachmayr Decelerator installed in the pictures , a 1-1/4" Brownells Latigo Sling in Gloss Black with QD Swivels .
Will send action out soon to be Nickel Plated , then I hope to be done with the 30 or so hand rubbed coats of Tung Oil it will be getting by the time the Plate job is done and sent back .
Then to the RANGE ! You either love the looks of this fine rifle or hate it , I understand it aint for everyone that's for sure , but we are loving it ! And that is what matters , right .
What a fine Rifle the Germans made .....Should make a fine Deer Buster , Elk , Bear , bad attituded Crack Heads , Gang-Bangers , and whatever else in North America and Abroad .

I like it. Once everything is done please let us know how well it shoots.

Thanks Siplace , and for sure I will let yall know if it shoots good or not ....Rifling appears crisp and Crown looks to be in great shape too , but proof is in the pudding right . I have a Target Barrel Crowning cutter so will wait and see if it needs it or not . No use doing un-needed work if we don't need to do it . If it dont put the bullets in a tight cluster at 100 yards then I will tweek it to do so These Carbines saw lots of action and this one probably killed many men from the surrounding Countrysides of Argentina , but it also saw lots of that time in a Horse Scabbard or strapped to the Soldier carrying it on horseback , so it is in great shape for being 120 years old .
After installing the Rear WIlliams sight , the Wife took a peep down the Carbine and remarked it looked like lookin down our Garand , so I think were onto something here . It sure points natural now compaired to the stubby 37 inches it was and straight stocked . What a difference the correct LOP and correct Heel and Comb set-up for a Target Rear Peep makes . With the stubby 17-1/2" barrel on these fine Carbines , I was reluctant to do anything but Iron sights anywayz since it will never be shot over 100 yards more than likely . When she or I hunts it the yardage will be much less , big brush country here . Last Elk I saw was 15 feet away from me grazing on the side of the road looking at me like I was stupid for stopping to watch him

Hee hee hee , that made me chuckle out loud . No doubt about that one , Dremels are the coolest tool . I use both to Bed things for sure , but nothing finishes off the Channel more precise than the Gun-Line Bedding Tool , period....I just did a Shotgun SXS with only the Bedding Tool , took me hours and hours but I really WANTED to experience how it was done back in the day . The SXS is an antique , and so is the work done on it . I am really SICK that way .
Thanks for the Very Nice comment by the way , appreciate that , will pass that on the Wife when she wakes up ....

Why thank you kindly Sir , she wanted the Chunk-o-Fiddle-Back-Maple as Highlight wood , and after getting the second coat on and getting some gloss going on the stock , it is POPPING quite nicely now . It is by far , too glamorous lookin for most Military afficionados of the Mauser , but I don't sleep with them now do I Look forward to getting some Blood on this Rifle but not Human this time , it has seen enough Death and War am sure . Thanks again Olhippy , appreciate the comments always

She was right about using the Fiddle Back for highlights. It sets off the darker wood very well.

Siplace , she is always right Smartest two words a Man ever said " Yes Dear "
    She picked it , I cut , shaped , installed , " Yes Dear "

Hard to go wrong with Fiddleback Maple , stuff is just pretty as it gets on guns .

I very much look forward to seeing the barrel in Bright Nickel Plate up against the Front Sight Ears/Hood in Bright Blued Steel , it is gonna be dazzling on the Fiddleback Maple Yup , she is genious , good thing I married her huh .
