What is said on the lower is not important, what is said on the barrel is what matters. Shoot either with confidence in the Colt.
I've read about the chamber leade difference and the pressures and that you're not supposed to shoot 5.56 in a gun labeled for 223 Rem but 223 Rem in a gun marked for 5.56 is o.k.. Assuming all that is correct, here's my question: I know someone who has a Colt AR-15 with the lower stamped "223 Remington." The box it came in is marked "223 Remington." The barrel is stamped "C MP 5.56 NATO 1/9 HBAR." So, can he safely shoot 5.56 ammo through it or should he stick to 223? Thank you.

The barrel is the only part that matters in that.
