    Ranting Arsenal AK-47's

I'm in a pickle here... I'm trying to decide what type of AK I'm going to be getting. I've already decided with Arsenal AK's (arsenalinc.com).

I've found several that I am considering but can't make a final decision.

The SAM7 series of rifles is what I'm looking at.

What I can't figure out, is the SAM7-13 has a chrome lined barrel and it is $1,550.
Then the SAM7-18 and 17 don't, they have all of the same features except for the chrome lined barrel but they are still only $1,550? Can someone explain the apparently no change in price for a chromed barrel?

Also, from the link, which one of the AK's do you think I should buy? Price is not an issue.

OR should I look at a different manufacturer altogether?

It appears that both of the models have milled receivers, and I've heard people complaining about AKs with milled receivers due to the bolt getting stuck when chambering a round, magazine wobble, stuff like that. I'm not entirely sure about this company though, as I haven't heard of them before.

Maybe you could look into some other AKs, such as the Romanian WASR10. Those are the types that I hear about the most. But be carefully to get the manufacturing date. The ones made during the Assault Rifle Ban days were cheaply made and were built so that they could only accept single stack magazines, but when the ban was lifted the company took back insold WASRs and quickly drilled the magazine wells to be able to fit double stack magazines.

There is a local shop here in CO that makes AK's called Arma Rifles. They make the best AK I have ever held in my hands. No magazine wobble heavier receivers and heavier barrels plus the guy can make it in any configuration you want. Their loaded AK is $999 and oh yeah the best part is the sweeeet smooooth trigger pull. Check them out at Armarifle.com.

Arsenal AK - of any flavor - are top of the line. Chrome lining a barrel is a rather minor step in manufacturing - so the cost is minimal. Milled receivers are "stiffer" than stamped receivers and the Russians tried them first - settling upon stamped receivers because of lesser cost and ease of manufacture. For civilian useage - I don't think you'll see much difference in performance or accuracy between either a HIGH END milled or stamped receiver. I've fired both and have owned several stamped. If price is no object to you, you can't do much better than the Arsenal/Bulgarian parts AKs and they hold their value. MSRP is usually at least 20 to 30% above street price. Check for a list of retailers on the web site or contact them. I've seen NIB Arsenals sell for under a grand.

I don't know.... I'm the last one in the world to knock custom guns. i have spent more than a few centavos on some of mine. However, we are talking an AK here, not a custom target or hunting rifle. When you spend all that money what do you get? Will it shoot minute of angle at 250 yards?

I'm not trying to hijack the thread or start a pee pee match here, I'm just saying that after one spends a ton of money on one of these expensive AKs he still only has an AK.

Maybe a milled receiver is better. There have been untold thousands of people killed with plain old run of the mill stamped receivers all over the world.

If you take a nasty old dog and give him a bath and a rhinestone collar you still have just a nasty old dog.

In a SHTF situation, shooting out of an old muddy ditch in the rain, will the $1000+ AK kill a zombie any deader than a regular old wasr?

    just wondering....

You can get one heck of an AR-15 for that kinda money....if it were me, I might split the difference and get an Arsenal Saiga conversion for $600 to $700....

Sometimes its nice to know you have the best of the best though, even if it is a nasty old dog.
