Due to hardship I had to sell a family hand me down several years ago. Was my Grandads..a factory stainless Colt Det. Special. When I qualified in 09 at DPS range for CHL instructor, had to do so with revolver and auto, while students then just used desired carry, revolver =revolver only, semi = either...that range equals FBI quality they said...rotating etc. I shot almost perfect score with that revolver. Oh how I wish I had it still, as with so many of my mistakes. My goodness that handgun was a shooter. I dont know if is just experience, or that I leave eyes open with firing (would have to force myself to blink ) or what, but anyone says you dont get distance shooting with a quality snub, well they either havent practiced with same or they dont get distance with six inchers either.
We were in a spot, no sell time, a "friend" said I could get it back if he still had it. Gave us $250. In two half weeks my SS check came in, he had Had to sell it. Did I mention I miss that weapon ? When I see a snubby I get sick.

I just got a S&W 38 Special. I found it surprisingly accurate. It was a nice Valentine's Day present.

I started carrying a snub nose Colt Detective Special back in 1972. I still carry snub noses. I bought 40 carry guns in the last few years and I ended up back with my snubbies. Jams, bad magazines, fussy with ammo, limp wristing and the rest of the reasons that semi autos fail. I do not care if the fault is ammo, mag or even not holding it tight enough, a failure is a failure and although not foolproof, I have never had a revolver fail on me all these years and most of my guns up to 11 years ago were revolvers. I have had Sigs. Springfields, Rugers, Colts, Glocks, S&W and more, fail on me over the years. I just feel more comfortable with a revolver in my pocket. I can keep my hand on it and look natural. I can shoot through a pocket. No mags to buy or lots of money spent on finding the right ammo.

Do not get me wrong, I still own more semi autos than revolvers and will carry one if the situation warrants being heavily armed, but at my age I rarely go anywhere where their might be trouble. 98% of the crime here are home burglaries when people are not home. There are a few home invasions into homes with very old people. They are more of a push their way in after the door is opened kind of thing. I have four Semi autos, HKs and Sigs within arms reach wherever I sit. Even have a tissue box from Tactical walls that kinds a semi auto on the end table next to my chair in the living room. Quick access.

Yet, the two times I needed a gun as a civilian, it was a snub nose that saved the day. I also like 1911s since I used one in Nam. I guess I favor guns that I know worked for me in times of trouble and half of the battle is feeling confident with your weapon. That is something you cannot get at a range nor experience the stress of life and death which nothing can prepare you for.

Now I remember why I don't use my phone and small screen to go online with my old eyes. I thought your name was "Horse JOEY". Please accept my apology. You got yourself a good guy.

Funny thing about my revolvers. All of them have either 3" barrels or shorter, or 6" barrels or longer. The mythical 4" barrel is not found. It's snubbies and hog legs for me.

4" is mythical? My Ruger speed six is 4".

Plus the SP 101, and the GP 100, Bearcat, Vaquero, and more.

4" barrels are only mythical for me. Everybody else seems to have one, but somehow I always end up with longer or shorter.
