Has anybody bought or at least shot that new S&W 66-8 model?

There is all kinds of right about this gun. They beefed it up from the previous models, last sold in 2005, while keeping the k frame configuration.
I don't think this new 66 is going to have problems like the old ones which were getting stretched and cracked due to heavy .357 magnum use.
Its still the k frame but built like a little tank.

They may have just made the larger L frame, 686 line obsolete. They just may have.

Basically you get a handier gun, that is actually concealable (practically speaking), that feels more balanced in your hand and shoots great 1 handed or 2 handed. There is nothing to lose with this gun, except 1 bullet, if you have a 686P and for what it is, that is well worth the tradeoff.

They really did a .357 magnum right in this gun

I have one, it shoots just fine. If you think it is your chance to replace the old 66 that you traded off, it is not. It is stronger and probably more accurate. It has a 4 1/2 " barrel, and locks up like the older triple lock, and some deminsions slightly larger than the old 66's I think that it was designed to handle 357 loads better. it is probably better. It just doesn't feel right, maybe it feels muzzle light, It has a barrel liner and an alloy lug. It won't give you the feel that always made you smile when you picked up the old 66.
