I have started making my own shooting range, and its coming along awesome so I thought I would share. My old boss who is more like family, lives 3 miles from me and is giving me full access to the 16 acres of woods behind his house to make a range. He told me long as I dont shoot towards the house (duh) I could do whatever I wanted! (:
So I scoped out an area where I could have the longest straight shot possible without any big trees in the way, and got to work. I cut down 15-20 small trees, cut out a whole lot of briars, bushes, and weeds, and moved lots of fallen trees/branches. So far I have about 100 yards by 20-25 feet wide cleared out, with a lot more room to extend. I am a lineman, and in my line of work I have access to all the steel plates/pieces I could want, so I have quite a collection. So far I have hung 2 of these, just to see how my rig would work. It worked awesome, so I will be hanging a lot more. Here are some pics of what I have done, in just 3-4 hours of working. I will be working on it every sunday on my days off, so I will keep posting more pics along the way!
Heres the entrance. We moved a large pile of rocks and several years worth of leaves.
This is the view from the shooting spot. Doesnt look like much yet, but you can see how much I have cleared out, and how far I have to shoot. I still need to move the leaves and use the weedwacker, but that will all get done.
Trial steel targets. About 30 yards from shooting area.
