    Battle Gunsmith training

Has anyone heard of or taken the DVD gunsmith course from AGI (American Gun Institute)? I am really interested in training to be a gunsmith, but at 40 yrs old with a family, taking a college course would be really difficult. Plus there are no colleges in Michigan that offer them.

from what I have heard ago is better than say Penn foster or others. I have info from them and they do have a lot of good info if you have the guns to work on. I do hobby gunsmithing as the projects come. There is no substitue for being an apprentice smith even a couple days a week. I would also reccomend buying the brownells starter kit. Its like 300 bucks but you HAVE to have the right tools to do good work. A smiths screw driver is not the same as a woodworkers. Plus the catalogue itself is informitive. I'm rblin now. Anyways, I would recommend ago, with a couple good books like DIY gunsmithing and the complete book of revolvers and handguns. As well as gun corps catalague.

most important is to ask questions, start with easy projects, and invest in the right tools. Its better to spend 35 dollars on the right cleaning rod than 200on a new barrel.

    good luck and have fun

Thanks for the encouragement. I have always loved guns and really enjoy working on them.
My thoughts are take the course to learn all the components and how they function, and then look for someone to work with to get the hands on. I am a believer in you can't ever learn too much. The more I know, the more confident I will be. From my research, there is not an abundance of gunsmiths in this area of Michigan. Thanks again.
