    Default guns with multiple calibers

I'm new to the site and new to handguns. My brother-in-law suggested a handgun that shoots multiple calibers. Is that possible and if so, does anyone have any recommendations.?

He may be referring to something like a Thompson Contender which would have interchangeable barrels. Or, He may be talking about something like a 357 mag/38 spl, 45 Colt/45 ACP, or 44 Mg/44 spl, or 454 Casull/45 Colt situation in which a revolver chambered for a more powerful cartridge can fire a cartridge with a bullet of the same caliber. Or, he may be suggesting that you get some kind of handgun that has not been invented yet.

A glock 10mm will shoot 40s&w and 357sig with conversion barrels. No need for different magazines either.

Also if you didn't like the wider glock 10mm a glock in 40 s&w will shoot 357sig and 9mm Luger with conversion barrels though you might want a 9mm magazine for increased reliability. The 9mm conversion has been known not to like the light 115gr 9mm but 124 or 147 seem to function fine. And not to overwhelm you but you can start with a glock in 357sig and shoot the other calibers I listed with conversion barrels too. 357sig is loaded in a necked 40s&w case. Hope some of this helps and welcome to the forum.

He may be talking about something like the S&W Governor or Taurus Judge.

Skip the interchangeable barrels and just buy multiple guns it's a lot more fun.

I think this would referring to the Judge or any other firearm that shoots the .45 Colt and the .410 shotgun shell. I was reading about the rifled barrel shooting the .410 and how the twist causes the shot to expand right out of the barrel. They said that if you're sitting in the driver seat and fire the .410 out the passenger window, some of the pellets won't make it out the window because the shot will disperse that fast out of the barrel. Kinds explains "scatter gun," no range but real easy to hit a target close in.

The words of a true gun nut. My wife can't tell one glock from another so they multiply in the safe like rabbits.

Thanks. Sounds a little dizzying. I think I'll stick with Yankee's advice and just buy multiple guns. I havent even got to the point on knowing how to disassemble one so changing barrels doesnt sound convenient. I need to start a collection of something, so why not handguns!
