Just wanted to replay my personal experiences of late. I ordered a Marlin SBL lever gun in Dec. 2011. It came out of the box with scratches on the receiver and barrel. The lever was discolored and had light rust spots on it. Upon chambering a round and then ejecting it without firing I discovered a small indent on the bullet primer. I thought this could be hazardous. I contacted Marlin and shipped the gun as they requested to Paducah Shooters service Center. Paducah kept my gun a week or more and could not perform needed service so they sent the gun to the Marlin Factory for service. Marlin received my gun on January 10,2012. It is March 5th and I still do not have my gun back! I have called numerous times and talked to the same staff person each time. This person tried over and over to get something going with my gun to no avail as yet. I have asked them to just send my gun back as is or send me a totally new gun or a refund. I keep getting no where. I have been told numerous times that I would be called back but never was! I called again today and talked to three different people and still am waiting for a call back. I asked to speak to a Supervisor or someone higher up the ladder and I was told that "They won't let you talk directly to them! They want you to go through us!" If you folks out there did not know, Marlin closed down the old 140+year old factory and fired all the previous staff that built their guns. Some of the new Marlin Staff told me the original employess who were fired had sabotaged the machines before leaving. " I DON'T BLAME THEM!" Freedom Group started a new Marlin factory which is Marlin in name only! The Superb made guns put out by the original Pro Gunsmiths at the original factory are no more!
Freedom Group now owns Marlin,Remington,NEF and H&R and several more gun makers. If you buy any of these guns you will be looking at the same crappy service/quality control for all of them. I called the H&R service number and when someone answered the phone I asked them if they were in the same facilty as Marlin?
They replied "YES". I bought my gun in December 2011 in hopes of getting to hunt deer with it but it came faulty out of the box and Marlin still has not returned it and has yet to even give me any kind of an explanation! One staff person told me they were doing the best they could! So I just wanted to share my experience with yall out there and maybe save you the grief I have and still am going through! That great Marlin Company we all loved is "NO MORE!" It has been replaced by a bunch who could care less about quality control or customer care! I also found out that Freedom Group is owned by CERBERUS. Then I found out that Cerberus was behind the government bailouts of Fanny Mae,Freedy Mac, GMC, and who knows how many more bailouts! Can anything good come from a monster company like CERBERUS taking control over everything? Now, think twice before you buy! You may wind up like me! My brother bought a new Remington AR the same time I bought my Marlin. He has had numerous feeding problems with it. At first the bolt would not strip a round from the magazine but would ride over the round chambering nothing. He called Remington and they sent him a new magazine and it did the same thing! He said he tinkered with the mag and bent it here and there and filed on it until he got it to work most of the time! The dust cover on the ejection port will not stay closed. If you jar the gun it pops open allowing dirt, and grit to get in the action. He paid some Big Money for that AR and I paid $791.00 for my Marlin SBL.
Who is Freedom Group?
They claim to be the world's leading innovator, designer, manufacturer and marketer of firearms, ammunition and related products for the hunting, shooting sports, law enforcement and military markets. As one of the largest manufacturers in the world of firearms and ammunition, they have some of the most globally recognized brands including Remington®, Bushmaster® Firearms, DPMS/Panther Arms™, Marlin®, H&R®, The Parker Gun™, Mountain Khakis®, Advanced Armament Corp. ®, Dakota Arms® and Barnes® Bullets.
Conclusion: I will never buy from any of the names listed above again in my life time! I will buy from the gun manufacturers who have not yet been swallowed up my the monster company Cerberus.
Cerberus or Kerberos, in Greek and Roman mythology, is a multi-headed hound (usually three-headed) which guards the gates of the Underworld
Nothing good can come from this Monster CERBERUS swallowing up all the gun manufacturers! and everything else it can swallow!
Marlin to Shut Down Connecticut Plant
Marlin Firearms, now owned by Remington Arms (part of Cerberus Capital Management’s Freedom Group), is going to shut down its North Haven, Connecticut manufacturing facility. This marks the end of a legendary period of gun-making in New England. Marlin has produced firearms in Connecticut since 1870, when the company was founded by John M. Marlin.
A Marlin spokesman indicated that the plant will be closed by June, 2011, and all 265 employees will be terminated via phased lay-offs starting in May, 2010. The Marlin plant closure, announced late Thursday (March 24th), came as a surprise to both Marlin employees and North Haven community leaders. Marlin plant workers reported being “blindsided”. One worker told WTNH Channel 8 that: “We never saw this coming… we were told to attend a mandatory meeting at 3:30… And then boom [that was it].” Remington has not yet issued an official statement about the factory closure, but one insider speculated that the plant was closed to “avoid union wage pressure driving retail cost upward and making the product less competitive in the modern firearms market.”
Marlin is currently head-quartered in Madison, North Carolina. There is no indication that the production of Marlin rifles will be halted — production will likely be shifted to Freedom Group factories in other states. The Shooting Wire reports that: “According to Remington Arms sources, the facility is being decommissioned and the manufacturing relocated to Remington’s Ilion, New York facilities; the Marlin lines are not moving offshore.” The production relocation will apply to Marlin products, and, presumably, to the other brands made by Marlin: Harrington & Richardson, New England Firearms, and L.C. Smith.
Marlin’s founder, John M. Marlin, learned his trade during the Civil war, working at the Colt plant in Hartford, Connecticut. In 1870, according to Marlin’s website, Marlin “hung out his sign on State Street in New Haven, manufacturing his own line of revolvers and derringers.” The Marlin enterprise was purchased by Frank Kenna in 1924, and the Kenna family maintained ownership until Remington acquired Marlin in 2008.
John M. Marlin the founder of Marlin would roll over in his grave if he could see what Marlin has become today!

MARLIN SERVICE UPDATE!
Well folks! Today is April 24th 2012. Yesterday I finally received a refund check for my defective out of the box Marlin 1895 SBL Lever Gun after aprox 4 months of phone calls and Run-Around! Be advised that if you purchase any firearm brands owned by Freedom Group that you will be subject to this same abuse I endured! My FFL Holder also had a similar problem with them concerning an over charge on ammo purchases. He said it took him several months with many phone calls to get his money refunded! "BUY AT YOUR OWN RISK" from FREEDOM GROUP owned brands which include Bushmaster, Panther Arms, NEF, H&R, Marlin, Remington. I will no longer give any of them my bussiness! I LEARNED MY LESSON THE HARD WAY!
Email I sent out today 4-26-2012 to warn friends!
Buyers beware! All gun companies recently bought up by Freedom Group have let quality control go to hell!
Buy at your own risk!
Remington, Marlin, Panther Arms, NEF, H&R, and possibly others.
I got a new Marlin 1895 SBL 45/70 that was defective out of the box!
I got this gun this past December near Christmas. I never got to hunt with it! I sent it back to Marlin in Dec. 2011 and I finally got a refund check on 4-23-2012! It took them 4 months to refund my money while they held my gun! I placed an ungodly amount of calls to them during this time getting nothing but the run around with them promising to return my calls with an answer but the return calls never came! I will never buy another firearm made in these plants owned by Freedom Group. If you buy a Marlin gun these days make sure it has a "JM" proof mark stamped on the barrel near receiver which indicates it was made in the old original Marlin Plant. You know folks its very very sad! We sit by seemingly helpless as we see our country just going to Hell in so many different ways! Our freedoms being taken away a piece at a time! What kind of future do you really think our children are going to have??? THE ONLY FUTURE LEFT FOR US TO LOOK FORWARD TO IS THE RETURN OF JESUS TO SET THINGS STRAIGHT! Freedom Group are the ones who bailed out FANNY MAE and FREDDY MAC, Chrysler, and GM. See and read article at link:
