Federal law does allow resident immigrants with a "green card" to own a firearm under certain circumstances. You will need to ascertain exactly what the State of Vermont requires, however. Find the authority in VT and get the requirements directly from them. Do not rely on folks on the internet as you may get more opinions and anecdotes than actual facts. He said Vermont in his post.

I really don't know much about those types of laws. So I reckon that I'll just say welcome to the forum.

    Default Thanks for your replies.

    Hi all.

I'm going to be working out of Burlington and based around the area. I am moving from the UK.
The gun laws over here are so tight itís crazy. I used to go shooting with my Dad and want to take it up again as a hobby. Also itís so nice to know that I can within reason protect my family and home. The criminals have more rights than law abiding citizens over ere.

I have kids and want to bring them up in a fairly safe Christian area. Now I might get some negative responses for saying that but itís just how I feel. As the UK is in the EU we are having a huge influx of immigrants who have no moral values and little or no work ethic. Donít get me wrong, I donít care what colour they are as long as they work, pay tax, obey the law and try to assimilate into our society. But there are areas of the UK now that want to have Sharia law and want to be separate from the UK. They donít want to integrate and to some extent are racists themselves.

So all I want to do is come over to the US and work hard, help my fellow human beings as a medical professional, pay my taxes and blend in. I want myself, my children and grand kids to eventually become US citizens.

I really canít believe that I have lost so many generations of my male family members to the 1st, 2nd world wars, (Great Granddad and Granddad, 2 Great Uncles) Korea (Uncle Australian Army) Vietnam (Cousin) Northern Ireland (Cousin) Iraq (Brother in Law). I have lost all these family members and now feel like my country is being raped and invaded by people who shouldnít have been let in. Moan over.

I do realise it does look like Iím painting a rose tinted picture of the US and do know that some areas and the economy are not so good at the moment. Itís the same all over. Is it too much to ask to try and have a happy life? God bless you all. Please keep the comments coming.

    Many many thanks.

    Matt.

Matt, I feel for ya. Everyone else here will also, I'm sure.

You need to make sure that when you move here you choose an area with gun freedom. There are still areas in the U.S. which refuse to allow full gun freedom.

Best of luck and if you have any questions about any specifics, please let us know.
