    Default Cobra .22 derringer ?

Went to the gun store to buy .17HMR ammo and let the wife come in with me . She had them put this Cobra .22 derringer in the store safe " on hold" . Because it was "cute". It's like $150 .

Anybody know anything about these guns?

If she must have a derringer, the Bond is the best available, new, in California.

Cobra makes crap guns. Derringers are crap (most are at least). Get her a Kel-tec .380 or .32 if she must have a miniscule gun.

I have to agree with Popeye here. I'm not really a fan of Derringers due to their annoying spur triggers, but every Derringer I have shot has been a Bond Arms brand.

On a side note Kowboy, your wife sounds a hell of a lot like my girlfriend. She's always telling me small guns are "cute". She thought my dad's G26 was "cute" and my NAA Mini was "cute".

If she likes the derringer, then I din't see anything wrong with that. I have two Bond guns and I like them. Derringers are not crap. They are a sort of historical firearm and they are fun to shoot. Its not like you buy one to go into combat with.

Get it and have fun. $150 is pretty cheap. A Bond is going to run you quite a bit more than that.

    I have a Cobra in 9mm.

I bought it on a whim at a gun show.

It's kinda fun shotting 9mm out of a tiny weapon.

I agree with BW.. derringers are not crap. Like all other guns they have their time and place. Maybe some of the reports of lousy accuracy would not exist if those attempting to shoot were better shots and did not try to do with the gun what the gun was never designed to do. They are not target guns.. they are in your face, right now, can't possibly come any closer, car jacker in the window wants my car, guns.

As was said, $150 is cheap for a lot of fun at the range or fooling around shooting at cans. A .22 derringer does not have a lot of recoil. I'd get it, make sure my wife understood what it was and was not designed for, and join her in having fun with it. All reports say that even if you have trouble with it the warranty is great and service is quick.

I have 7 or 8 derringers in my pile. Everything from Bond and NAA down to CDM and Talon. From .44 Magnum to .22 short. If and when I find one of the old High Standard round butt derringers in .22 magnum I will buy it in a New York minute! You think derringers are worthless? Try and find one of those but you better have deep pockets for when you do.

Everything doesn't have to be a name brand and cost hundreds of dollars. You can have a lot of fun with some of these guns if you give them a chance.

Good choice. Derringers are difficult to bring into action. I've owned a couple for the "hell of it" but wouldn't ever consider one as a primary or even secondary SD firearm - there are quite a few much better choices out there in the same size range, but of more capable cartridge chambering, today. Besides, a .22 lr out of a 1.5 to 2" barrel will give you muzzle velocities of less than 600 fps - just enough to piss off an already pissed off dog.
