    Default Stolen gun

gentleman to make a long story short I had a rifle stloen out of my truck thanksgiving weekend and wanted a place to show the world that it is hot. I really didn't see anything online that was what I was looking for so I had a friend of mine construct a website for people to post their stolen guns on. There are still some things we are going to add but the site is ready for its general purpose right now. Just so you know it is free to submit your stolen firearm.
    Thanks, Aaron

Welcome to the forum. I'm assuming that you reported the loss to local police so that they can list the S/N in NCIC, correct? Absolutely must do that.

You want to maybe give us a description? Many of us deal in firearms either personally or professionally. Who knows, one of us just might see it?

    Glad you joined us.

Yes it was reported immediately but I just wanted to get something out there for the secondary market to look at. Wasn't really confident that the NCIC is going to find my rifle. Thanks for the reply and the welcome. Here is the info on my rifle.
    Remington 700 VS SF ll
    Serial # S6505207

I drive a gas saver to work and it was taken out of my truck while it was in my driveway. I live somewhat out in the country but still have a few houses in sight, have been living here for years and just never had any problems. Dont get me wrong we lock the house when we leave for any period of time and I always lock my vehicles when im out somewhere. I guess you could say I just got careless. Anyway, the rest is history.

Just FYI, the NCIC doesn't 'find anything', it's the "National Crime Information Center" which is where the police all over the country run serial numbers, VINs, names and such to determine whether they are involved in a crime, missing person, etc. That way, if your gun showed up in WA or NM or MD or anywhere else, and an officer ran the S/N, he'd know it was stolen. "Stolenweapon.com" may be a good step, too, but it's a private concern. I don't know whether LEAs use it or not -- never heard of them doing so. Maybe some of our LEO members could comment.

My general experience through all of this has pretty much brought me to this conclusion. Unless my gun shows up in a drug bust or some other type of law enforcement operation I'll probably never see it again. I think it may vary from state to state but it isn't a law in my state for a gun shop to check the serials on used guns they buy or trade for. Some do anyway, but many dont. Thats not to mention flee markets etc...I just wanted to create a place for the individual who has had a firearm stolen to post their info. There is small pockets of this information scattered all over the internet but I really didn't feel like any of them were what I was looking for. Just having my gun posted on any # of forums didnt give me a lot of confidence that a someone would search for it. We're looking to build a sizable database over a period of time so that the general public knows this is the place to see if a gun is hot. I know we will never have every gun out there thats been stolen but for those who want the exposure the site is free.
