Default CVA 50 cal. Bobcat sidelock

Anybody own or shoot a CVA .50 cal Sidelock bobocat? I have one, but have never shot it. Missing a part. I just havne't ordered it yet. I was wondering if you shoot balls or sabots? Or how you like one better than the other. Or feelings on the rifle!

    Thanks,
    PT1980

That was designed as an inexpensive entry-level rifle. It is however, decent. It has a slow twist, designed for round balls. Yours MAY shoot mini balls, but you'll have to experiment with it. The twist is way to slow for sabots.

Thanks for the info. I apprciate it. I'm looking to get into blackpowder to extend me hunting season. I'll get this goin and see how I like it. Though I beleive the newer model shoot more like regular rifles these days. I like the feeling of the old style of hunting. Thanks again for the info!

When those rifles were out, they sold for about $89 new at most Internet retailers.

Try 80-90 grains of black powder over a .490 round ball with a .010 or .015 patch lubed with bore butter. I've killed many deer with that combo.

I bought one for my oldest son for his 15th birthday. He's 27 now. He killed his first BP deer the first year (a button buck) using 60gn FFg under a .490 round ball and .015 patch. A clean one shot kill, it fell in it's tracks. It wouldn't have been a bigger trophy if it had been a 12 point to him. I was proud as could be. He still hunts with it even though I've bought him an inline.
